CAUSES OF MENISCAL TEARS
We have two causes of meniscal tears which include
• Trauma (Physical injury/shock)
• Degenerative(wear and tear (Disease))

Trauma
In young individuals, meniscal tears are usually caused by trauma, especially trauma involving a twisting or pivoting of the knee.
Gradual degeneration
In older individuals, there may be a gradual degeneration of the meniscus with no single causative event. As older individuals develop osteoarthritis of the knee, the menisci develop degenerative changes as well, and these can look like tears on imaging studies
